Chapter 11 The Tsar's Crimea

In the Crimean War, Russia was besieged by the Western European powers, and plans to go south to the Black Sea and control the Straits were scuttled. The most annoying thing was that in 1878, under the auspices of Bismarck of Prussia, a conference was held in Berlin, which made the Russians feel very squeezed. The Russian idea was to create a pan-Slavic independent state, centered in Bulgaria, with all the Slavs of the Orthodox faith in the Balkans, under Russian control, of course. This idea would not be agreed to by the Western European powers, especially Austria, Russia's traditional ally, which gave no quarter and bit into the regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, determined not to let go. Bismarck, the moderator of the Congress, sided with Austria-Hungary for reasons of German interests in Turkey. The Berlin Congress made the Russians feel that they had lost someone and suffered a loss, so they could not act rashly in the Balkans, so they later focused all their efforts on the Far East, and were beaten up by the Japanese again. Although Britain was dissatisfied with Russia's covetousness of the Black Sea, but because of the arms race and the rise of Germany, Britain felt that Germany was the enemy at the moment, and the French pulled the strings to make Britain and Russia an ally. In this way, Germany, Austria and Italy followed the sauce to form an alliance, Russia, France and Britain corresponded to the establishment of the Entente, "World War I" in Austria-Hungary after the death of the Prince of Serbia, officially opened.

"Before the start of World War I, although the Russian Empire also claimed to be one of the strongest countries in the world, but from the Crimean War to the Russian-Japanese War fiasco, everyone found that the polar bears are big but not when, very weak kidneys. Compared to the European powers that had gone through two industrial revolutions, Russia was behind in industrial technology, science and culture, and the backwardness was evident in the military, especially when they were about to face Germany, which could almost be called the strongest army on land. As soon as war was declared in the summer of 1914, the German army devoted all its efforts to the western front to face France, and only a small number of troops faced Russia on the eastern front. Seeing this, Russia organized the Northwest Front to launch an attack on the eastern
